Just an update: The City Council kept the $1 million in the budget for trails and facilities in Lexington. A lot of things were cut in the budget that Newberry proposed but this one managed to stick around.

We really need to continue to capitalize on the political culture/will of the council and continue to work for a better lexington.

what do you suggest we do to keep their feet to the fire?

Another round of letter and email writing reminding them that it is there for that intended purpose? What other kinds of things can we do to help spur on initiatives and facilities?

Makes me wonder if the funds have stuck around only because it will be a card in the deck for 2010...

Actually for once it sounds like things are going to actually happen with this money. As I understand it, the money from last year and this year has harldy been spent (about 100,00) for planning purposes. Request for Proposals/contracts are in the works from Parks & Rec to begin/continue work on many of the trails.

I think something appropriate would be to thank the council for keeping the money.

I am sure Newberry will use us (bikes) in 2010 but if we can use him in the process then we will not feel cheap, used and discarded.

brad oakley posted some info about potential use of some of the money on mtbr.com and kymba.org, subsequently someone put it on craigslist http://lexington.craigslist.org/bik/734722129.html if you want brad oakley's email address I can get it for you.
